TJ Dillashaw on Cody Garbrandt: 'He Doesn't Deserve a Rematch'
- Renee Ellis
Speaking at the post-fight press conference for UFC 217, UFC President Dana White discussed a potential title fight happening between new bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and reigning flyweight champion Demetrious johnson. "This isn't the end of Cody Garbrandt".
While it is hard to make out if it really is Dillashaw and Garbrandt in there, the former does appear to be knocked down but questions remain if he was actually knocked out.
Dillashaw had spurned his old training camp, Team Alpha Male, which Garbradnt is now a member of. Garbrandt pressed forward with a flurry that got Dillashaw's attention.
If Dillashaw is forced to fight within his division for his next fight, there is a clear No. 1 contender bout on the horizon.
Dillashaw finished the fight with some brutal ground-and-pound before letting out a cathartic scream in Garbrandt's face after the fight had been stopped. "He's got his big fight now".
"This belt has been around my waist the whole time in my mind", Dillashaw said. "Him leaving is one thing". But considering he was open to a champion-vs. -champion super fight, which would then mean meeting Garbrandt, that's one obstacle now out of the way. "I'm getting that belt at 125". After having a takedown attempt shrugged off, Dillashaw wobbled "No Love" with a thunderous head kick.
You can't condition your chin. "You should have been fighting me", he said.
"I should've got a rematch after that Cruz fight, you know?" I was kicking low, kicking his body, kicking low, but I slowly had the finish.
