Whistleblower: Flynn texts broached nuclear plan, sanctions

Flynn Said Russian Sanctions Would be 'Ripped Up,' Whistle-Blower Says

As President Trump delivered his inaugural address, national security adviser Michael Flynn texted a former business partner that a private nuclear power project that would require lifting sanctions on Russian Federation was "good to go", a senior House Democrat said in a letter released Wednesday.

The account is from a whistleblower made public for the first time today. Copson was working with Flynn to promote a joint project with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East.

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said Wednesday the whistleblower's allegations raise concerns that Flynn improperly aided the nuclear project after joining the White House as one of Trump's top national-security officials.

Cummings' five-page letter to Gowdy calls for a slew of new subpoeanas and castigates the committee chairman for his "refusal to investigate".

As the whistleblower chatted with Flynn's associate during an Inauguration Day celebration on January 20, Flynn sent texts saying the associate's nuclear proposal was "good to go", the whistleblower said. The whistle-blower, Mr. Cummings said, is willing to meet with Mr. Gowdy if he agrees to protect the person's identity. He said Flynn did not cash the check, however. Copson added that "this is going to make a lot of very wealthy people".

Gowdy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Penn State's Saquon Barkley wins Paul Hornung Award for his versatility
Barkley's coach, James Franklin, said he has "never coached or seen a player who can affect the game the way Saquon Barkley does". Hornung and the Louisville Sports Commission for selecting me for this very special honor", Barkley said in a statement.

The message said the project was 'good to go.' It continued that Copson should contact colleagues to 'let them know to put things in place.' The whistleblower could not read the text of the message, but said the timestamp said 12:11 pm, meaning just minutes after Donald Trump assumed the presidency.

On December 29, the day the Obama administration imposed new sanctions and expelled 35 Russian diplomats from the United States in retaliation for Moscow's election meddling, Flynn called Kislyak and asked that Russia not escalate the situation, according to court documents.

Flynn pled guilty last week to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding conversations with Russians.

"I do not bring this whistle-blower to your attention lightly", Cummings said. ACU was pushing a nuclear project in the Middle East that Flynn is said to have lobbied for while in the White House.

"Mr. Copson explained that General Flynn was making sure that sanctions would be "ripped up" as one of his first orders of business and that this would allow money to start flowing into the project", Cummings wrote. Cummings and committee Democrats have complained that Gowdy has stiff-armed the Flynn investigation since he took over the committee in June by consistently refusing to issue subpoenas to the White House and various administration officials, Flynn's consulting firm and his business colleagues related to the matter.

The letter from Cummings concluded with a request to issue subpoenas for "all documents and communications referring or relating" to Flynn's foreign contacts during the Trump campaign, the transition period and his brief time as national security adviser.
