Federal Agency Returns to Accepting Requests Under DACA

Three Republican and three Democratic senators said Thursday they'd reached an election-year accord to protect hundreds of thousands of young immigrants from deportation and to bolster border security.

"It is time for Congress to give us a lasting solution that will leave no doubt that the Dreamers are American and they are here to stay", Becerra said.

Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake, who was briefed by Durbin and a fellow GOP Senator who attended the meeting, confirmed that version of events to CNN.

A White House spokesman declined to offer an immediate comment on Trump's remarks. Many Hispanic and liberal members of the party oppose steps toward curtailing immigration such as ending the visa lottery and restricting the relatives that legal immigrants could bring to the U.S.

Bishop Vasquez said the bishops "stand ready to work" with Trump and Congress "in the coming days to help fashion a just solution that meets their needs, ensures our nation's safety and security, and sets the stage for the larger debate on immigration reform that is so urgently and desperately needed".

After Trump and lawmakers spent time meeting privately on Tuesday, the White House and numerous lawmakers said there was agreement to limit the immediate bill to four areas. White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the issue should be resolved as part of the legislative process.

"The point is that we need a total reform of our immigration system, and it should not be tied to the current debate over DACA and the 'Dreamers, '" he added.

Ever since President Trump opened up DACA negotiations to the news media for an hour - that happened on Tuesday - senators have been meeting in private, trying to close the deal.

People protesting the cancellation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals rally outside the Capitol Building on Capitol Hill December 6, 2017 in Washington, DC. "I don't get that", said No. 2 Senate Republican John Cornyn of Texas. "The president made it clear to me on the phone less than an hour ago that he wasn't going to do that".

Man Utd boss Mourinho concedes major Ibrahimovic setback
Asked whether United should always be challenging in the market for the world's best players, Mourinho added: "It depends". Also, the sure absentee will be center-back Eric Bailly . 'He is our player and a very good player.

The talks on DACA have become embroiled in negotiations on funding for the federal government, which expires on January 19. The decision was met with opposition from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers - and 58% of voters, including 79% of Americans 18 to 34 years old, think marijuana should be legalized, according to Quinnipiac.

Led by Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte and Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul, the bill would curtail chain migration and end the Diversity Visa Lottery, which President Trump said is critical to any deal.

"There is a reason why the President has said that is not acceptable to him and sent everybody back to the same drawing board that Kevin McCarthy drew up on Tuesday", [Senator Tom] Cotton said after the meeting. The move was not well received by many other Senate Republicans, who have not had a chance to review details of the proposal.

King said many immigration hardliners, who were excluded from the White House meeting, are still weighing their options for leverage.

Seventy-nine per cent of voters told pollsters that they want DACA recipients to be permitted to stay in the USA - and they believe the large population should have a legal pathway to full citizenship. The program, which aims to provide visas to people from countries with low rates of immigration to United States, now distributes up to 50,000 visas a year.

He later called it a "joke" of a proposal. "Brought to this country as children by undocumented parents or family members, they are not "illegal" through any fault of their own", Archbishop Gomez wrote.

On Thursday afternoon, Republican senators went to tell Trump the good news.

A honest immigration debate that leads to fixes for an antiquated and broken system would be a welcome development.
