Highlights from Chinese companies at 2018 CES

Technology brands including Intel and IBM have been quick to jump into the social conversation with a tongue-in-cheek brand approach after a blackout struck the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. "We will continue to restrict access until full power has been restored".

Update 6:39pm CT, Jan. 10: The CES blackout was caused by "condensation from heavy rainfall" on a transformer at the Las Vegas Convention Center, convention authorities said in a statement Wednesday.

The Consumer Electronics Show lost its electrics shortly after 6am AEDT time, during the show's busiest hours, shutting down parts of the Las Vegas Convention Centre, including Central Hall where the show's biggest exhibits are located. Late morning on Wednesday, the power went down in a main hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center, sending thousands of vendors and visitors outdoors or to other venues.

The convention center's Central Hall which features massive booths for tech giants Sony, Samsung, Intel, and LG, were also affected.

Trump Doesn't Want Immigrants From 'Shithole' Countries
In Geneva, UN human rights spokesman Rupert Colville said: "These are shocking and shameful comments". Congressman Steny Hoyer, a Democrat, said " President Trump's comments are racist and a disgrace".

Hopefully it won't be long before CES staff can identify the source of the issue and get the lights back on at the world's biggest technology conference. Thanks for your continued patience. About that heavy rainfall: Record-breaking rain on Tuesday had already caused a bit of chaos at CES, flooding a number of booths, including one belonging to Google. This resulted in attendees getting led out of the affected areas until power could be restored.

As one would expect at an event filled with tech enthusiasts, plenty of pictures and videos of the eerily darkened scene hit Twitter during the outage, with the hashtag #CESBlackout quickly becoming a top trending topic. Event officials said they were still investigating how the power went out. Intel had a tongue-in-cheek announcement for a product called "Blackout". There's nothing more tragic than rows upon rows of blackened 4K HD TV displays.

Many attendees and technology journalists were quick to point out the irony of one of the world's largest technology electronics showcases without power. The power went out in the central hall of #CES2018!
