Jeremy Corbyn says Labour doesn't support a second Brexit vote

EU news- Nigel Farage and Michel Barnier

"Labour just can't be trusted to deliver on leaving the European Union". The SNP, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru and Greens have joined forces to back an amendment to the EU (Withdrawal) Bill when it returns to the Commons this week.

"This amendment is a significant step in the fight against Brexit, demonstrating the increased willingness of parties to work together formally rather than just behind the scenes", said Sir Vince.

The comments came after some Labour figures called for the party to change tack and campaign to remain in the single market and customs union after withdrawal.

Corbyn also said there would "obviously" have to be a customs union with the EU after Brexit but claimed there could be no membership of the Single Market.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn refused to attend the meeting.

When it was put to Mr Corbyn that he was not saying he would never support another referendum, the Labour leader said: "We are not calling for one either".

In a speech to the Fabian Society's annual conference in London on Saturday, Streeting will say: "On the UK's future relationship with the European Union - the single biggest issue facing our country in a generation - we find ourselves in the bad position where it is the Labour party that now stands as the single biggest barrier to the UK's membership of the single market and customs union. What we've called for is a meaningful vote in Parliament and that is the one area that I think Parliament has asserted itself in the vote before Christmas". "We urge the leadership of a fifth opposition party, Labour, to join us so we can change course from the unsafe Brexit being pursued by the Conservatives".

Markets Right Now: Banks, retailers lead stock gains
Hong Kong's Hang Seng index dipped 0.1 percent to 31,032.51 while China's Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.5 percent to 3,405.93. Signet Jewelers had the largest loss of the S&P 500 after it reported weaker sales for the holiday season than a year earlier.

Mr Corbyn expressed concern about some parts of the single market set-up.

And she admitted that it was a "deep balancing act" to please both Labour voters who backed Brexit, and Labour members who want to stay in the EU.

Corbyn again ruled out single market membership in an interview with ITV's Robert Peston on Sunday.

"The Single Market is dependent of membership of the European Union".

Numerous Labour MPs have pointed out that Norway, Lichenstein and Iceland participate fully in the single market, despite not being EU members, through their membership of the European Free Trade Association.

"This amendment would not keep the United Kingdom in the single market and customs union, nor does it intend to deal with the serious flaws in this Bill", they said.
