The United States and South Korea have agreed to terms regarding further diplomatic engagement with North Korea, according to U.S. vice president Mike Pence who said that talks between Seoul and Pyongyang could eventually link Washington with the rogue nation.

The source said the trip would be "sometime after the Olympic Games", which are due to finish on February 25, and did not comment on the agenda for the visit.

In a report on the high-level delegation's visit distributed to press on Sunday, the unification ministry said that the North may take further steps to improve relations between the two Koreas. He made it clear from the start that he came to the Games with a message of "maximum pressure" on Pyongyang.

Regarding summit talks between the two Koreas, Moon said, "Let us make it happen by creating the necessary conditions", showing his positive stance.

Seoul takes a peaceful view of this process, one based on relationship-building and the eventual absorption of North Korea into South Korea's democratic, capitalist system.

The drills are aimed at deterring North Korea from making military provocations, and maintaining and reinforcing readiness to deal with contingencies.

"Unlike the United States, we do not engage in dirty and messy acts to abuse sports events like the Olympics for political purposes", the newspaper said in an article attributed to an unnamed writer. In Tokyo, Pence announced new sanctions on North Korea that he promised would be the toughest ever, due to be unveiled soon.

In an effort to limit the fiery rhetoric of both leaders, the United States and South Korea agreed to suspend military exercises in the region for the duration of the Olympics.

The U.S. did not issue any official statement on the invitation, but the Washington Post quoted Pence on his way home from the visit over the weekend that Washington was open to initial talks with North Korea. She also extended an invitation to President Moon to visit her brother in Pyongyang, which potentially sets up the first meeting of Korean leaders since 2007.

"There is no daylight between the United States, the Republic of Korea and Japan on the need to continue to isolate North Korea economically and diplomatically until they abandon their nuclear and ballistic missile program", Pence said as he flew back to the United States.

The cheerleaders, part of North Korea's official delegation to the Games, were performing at the joint Korean women's ice hockey team's match against Switzerland on Saturday.

Nothing has been settled on any trip north by South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

Past administrations have been wary of efforts by Pyongyang to drive a wedge between Washington and Seoul, but still generally supportive of efforts to calm tensions at the heavily militarized border that divides the Koreas. They stressed the North Koreans in the VIP box had watched Pence, Moon and Abe hold a running discussion in the front row for the more than two-hour ceremonies.

She carried the invitation to Moon.Donald Trump and Kim have been abusing each other, but this invitation has taken the wind out of the sails of the U.S. and was reflected in the stony reaction by Vice President Pence at the Olympics.

The DPRK delegation met with ROK President Moon four times during the historic three-day visit.
