Upcoming Gmail redesign will also herald the arrival of self-destructing emails

Gmail’s current design as viewed on the web

Gmail will reportedly offer a feature that will allow users to set a self-destruction time when the message they send will no longer be viewable by the recipient, according to TechCrunch.

Today, we're learning that Google is looking to add a new feature to Gmail: self-destructing emails.

The new version of Gmail will also show a lock icon which would be placed in the compose box in order to activate the Confidential Mode. As the Google's I/O developer conference starts on May 8th this year, this new Gmail design will be an important part of the event.

And you'll be able to put an extra layer of security on particularly sensitive emails - you can require the recipient to confirm their identity with a passcode (sent to their phone), or to log in a second time, before viewing the content.

Facebook Apparently Collects Data On Non-Users As Well
Aleksandr Kogan, the academic who harvested Facebook data for Cambridge Analytica, also took users' private messages . Others asked the CEO about Facebook's restriction of a page belonging to pro-Trump vloggers " Diamond and Silk ".

TechCrunch states that the feature isn't ready yet, as their source arrived at a non-existent page after clicking on the "Learn more" option to open Google's help articles.

There will also be a snooze feature that lets users "snooze" emails and decide when to make them reappear in their inbox.

There has been no official announcement regarding the launch of this feature to the users in their entirety. The new feature is similar to that of Outlook's email forward prevention functionality which was announced for Office 365. However, when it expires the email will disappear from the inbox. This is because Google is now asking users to confirm their Google account to view the confidential email. In addition, users will be able to set an expiration date on sent email.

The features are nearly similar to some of the features found in Microsoft's full Outlook application as Microsoft is also adding the ability to restrict emails on its Outlook.com service. TechCrunch's report notes that a confidential message doesn't have to be encrypted, which means that it's likely that Google can still see the content of the email.
