#blackout Bevin: Governor's words prompting another teacher protest

Senator Max Wise, R-Campbellsville, who chairs the education committee, rebuked the governor for his comments, tweeting, "The disgusting comments by Gov. Bevin insinuating that a peaceful protest by teachers would lead to sexual assault are reprehensible".

Hours after Governor Bevin insinuated children were being sexually assaulted due to the thousands of teachers protesting at the Capitol, parents and teachers say they are disgusted by his comments.

"It hurts me to think that the things that have been done by this administration will be overshadowed by a statement that is indefensible", Stivers said.

"The words that people say can have unintended consequences", Bevin said in a video posted to his administration's YouTube page.

In the video, Bevin thanks people who "understood what I was saying", but admitted that a "tremendous number of people did not fully appreciate" his comments.

"It is my accountability to symbolize you, not exclusively after I'm talking to you, however after I'm talking in your behalf in methods which might be clear, which might be understood, that do not harm folks and do not confuse folks", he stated.

Teachers got the blame, as Bevin said some single parents can not afford childcare and can not afford to take time off work to watch their children. It is not my intent to hurt anyone.but to help us all move forward.

Yankees-Tigers doubleheader called off
Left-hander Francisco Liriano is slated to start the first game and lefty Matthew Boyd is slated to start the second game. The Tigers have a scheduled off day on Monday and then will start a three-game home series against the Baltimore Orioles.

Let's work together, we need to work together, frankly, we're all in this boat, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, together, our children, our grandchildren, their futures depend upon us.

Matt Bevin has apologized to those offended by recent remarks insinuating that walkouts by teachers have left children unsupervised and vulnerable to sexual assault.

After the day's events, Bevin made the comment about teachers to a group of reporters outside the Capitol. Bevin asked reporters, according to a video posted on Twitter by WDRB News reporter Marcus Green. "As a mother, suggesting children were abused as a prop for his political rhetoric is disturbing and absurdly in poor taste".

"This is the example that we want to send to our children, really?"

Thousands of teachers left their schools last week to push for the state House of Representatives to overturn Bevin's vetoes on a $480 million tax increase and two-year spending plan. Time and time again we hear this demeaning rhetoric spewed, attacking our public educators and public employees.

The Kentucky Democratic Party quickly issued a response to the comments made by the governor.
