Trump Adviser Kushner Gets Permanent Security Clearance

Trump Adviser Kushner Gets Permanent Security Clearance

White House adviser Jared Kushner speaks during a Prison Reform Summit in the East Room of the White House May 18.

Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and adviser, has been granted his permanent security clearance, a person briefed on the matter said on Wednesday, ending a period of uncertainty that had fueled questions about whether Kushner was in peril in the special counsel investigation.

The granting of the security clearance suggests that investigators' scrutiny of Kushner has decreased significantly.

Lowell said the permanent clearance will allow Kushner to access "all the material that he needs, and all the material he got in the past, in order to do the job the president has asked him to do".

Kushner's security clearance was reported earlier by the New York Times. His interview lasted more than six hours.

Kushner was first interviewed in November, when the focus was mainly on former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who pleaded guilty of lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The second interview occurred in April and concerned potential influence by foreign governments, including Russian Federation, and the firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, among other topics, Lowell said on CNN.

In a statement , American Airlines officials said that Dawkins had been captured and was back on course to the sanctuary. San Antonio police said officials cornered the animal inside a room at the airport around 3:45 p.m.

The special counsel's questioning focused on Kushner's work with Trump and did not include topics such as Kushner's personal finances or those of his family business, Kushner Companies, according to the person.

"Since then, he has continued this complete cooperation, providing a large number of documents and sitting for hours of interviews with congressional committees and providing numerous documents and sitting for two interviews with the Office of Special Counsel".

"In each occasion, he answered all questions asked and did whatever he could to expedite the conclusion of all the investigations", Lowell said.

The president's son-in-law had his temporary clearance revoked in February as the White House changed its security procedures.

Staff secretary Rob Porter later resigned. That meant Kushner was able to see information only at the lower "secret" level, but not highly classified information. Those clearances were stripped in February under a new White House policy.

Kushner is cooperating with Mueller's investigation and has turned over all requested information, Lowell said. Kushner updated the SF-86 forms once more in June to include that meeting. After it became clear that Kushner had actually met with many foreign officials during the presidential campaign, however, he amended his form to reflect more than 100 contacts.

But a law enforcement source told that a major stumbling block was Kushner's failure, even on his re-submitted application, to mention the now-famous 2016 Trump Tower meeting attended by Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.
