Trudeau 'stabbed us in back' on trade, says Trump chief economic adviser

"Canada does not believe that ad hominem attacks are a particularly appropriate or useful way to conduct our relations with other countries", Freeland told reporters Sunday, The Hill reported. He said USA representatives will examine the tariffs on automobiles coming into the country and bemoaned the Canadian tariffs that affect American companies and farmers.

A Trudeau spokesman, Cameron Ahmad, said Saturday night that Trudeau "said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public and in private conversations" with Trump.

The response from Mr Macron suggests an end to what observers had noted was a budding "bromance" between the French president and Mr Trump.

Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland responded to the White House assault by saying ad hominem attacks were not helpful, that Canada would retaliate to United States tariffs in a measured and reciprocal way and that Canada would always be willing to talk.

Merkel's comments followed Trump's abrupt decision via Twitter early Sunday to cancel his support for the just-agreed G7 communiqué, apparently out of anger over comments made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a press conference.

Trump responded to Trudeau's comments, tweeting the United States would not endorse the joint communique from the G7 Summit and accusing Trudeau of making "false statements" about their talks.

On Sunday, after the summit, Trudeau held a press conference in which he spoke about American trade policies.

In return, Mr Trump made the French president his guest at his first White House state dinner, after which the U.S. president said of his visitor: "I like him a lot".

On Saturday, he called Mr Trudeau "very dishonest and weak". "Prime Minister Trudeau may reap some political benefit through feuding with President Trump, but by engaging with the President on the terms he has so far, instead of on mutually productive ones, he is imperiling the economic well-being of millions of Canadians and Americans".

After day of tribulations, Ferrari finally locates Montreal
The reigning F1 champions said that "quality issues" would mean the new power unit would now be used at the next race in France. Ferrari are also expected to use an upgraded engine for all their teams, but this has not yet been officially confirmed.

Late last month, Canadian officials told the Trump administration there were two US demands they would never agree to in NAFTA: a sunset clause that would automatically terminate the deal in five years and the abolition of the Chapter 19 dispute resolution panels, one source said.

Canadian officials, including Trudeau, have fanned out across the United States as part of a months-long charm offensive to appeal to pro-trade Republicans at every level.

Europe will not let Trump do "whatever he pleases", the German chancellor said, adding that "we will not allow ourselves to be deceived again and again". And then Trudeau starts blasting him in a domestic news conference?

"To be honest with you, Prime Minister Trudeau, I respect".

"We need Russian Federation for disarmament talks" and for discussions about both Ukraine and Syria, Merkel said.

On Sunday morning, two Trump economic advisers, Larry Kudlow and Peter Navarro, ratcheted up the bizarro rhetoric. "We're the closest partners in the world and you don't want to see a dispute over one particular issue poison everything".

On Monday, Trump also renewed attacks on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who had hosted the G7 meeting in Quebec.

Trump has infuriated the European Union, Canada and Mexico by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminium imports.

At a rare solo news conference before heading to Asia, Trump said he pressed for the G-7 countries to eliminate all tariffs, trade barriers and subsidies in their trading practices.
