Merkel open to European Union migration reform, cautious on eurozone

Angela Merkel Trump

"We must decide who comes to Europe, not the smugglers", said Kurz, who is due to meet with Seehofer on Wednesday. "And then hope that the European Union will respond again in the same unity".

"We finished the meeting, really, everybody was happy, and I agreed to sign something", Trump told reporters at a news conference following his summit with Kim Jong-un in Singapore.

His remarks come a day after Chancellor Angela Merkel rebuffed President Donald Trump's sustained criticism of Germany's export prowess, arguing that the USA runs a trade surplus with Europe when services are included.

A photo of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other world leaders standing over a cross-armed United States President Donald Trump at Friday's G7 summit has been given the meme treatment on social media. In an in-depth interview with German broadcaster ARD, she said that the European Union would follow in the footsteps of Canada and come up with counter-measures to levy tariffs on the 28-member bloc. "We will act too", she said.

President Trump left the meeting half-way, warning the G7 nations that if they don't remove trade barriers with the USA, they will face consequences.

The picture has since gone viral on the Internet, and Mr Trump raised it himself at the news conference after he was asked about his relationship with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Elbotari said the couple were acting crude in his cab. "It's my own vehicle ". "It's disrespectful", the driver says. Elbotari replies, "I don't give a shit". "That's how fast it was that's why I say 'pecked'".

The G-7 summit participants managed to patch over their disagreements and agree to disagree on some issues in a joint final statement.

His comment sparked a new diplomatic spat between Trudeau and the Trump administration and led Chancellor Merkel to criticize Trump's handling of the matter.

"The withdrawal by tweet is, of course, sobering and a bit depressing as well", she told Germany's Anne Will talk show on Sunday evening.

She also spoke about Trump's suggestion to re-admit Russian Federation to the group.

Russian Federation was expelled following Vladimir Putin's annexation of Crimea in 2014, which Mr Trump characterised as "something happened a while ago". "But first of all we need to make progress in implementing the Minsk agreements", she said.

Trudeau's office cast doubt over the genuineness of Trump's offense at the prime minister's remarks, pointing out that Trudeau's messages simply reiterated his position before the summit, that he will oppose attempts to bully Canada on trade. "Maybe we can help". Bickering over anemic German spending on defense as well as the USA withdrawal from the Paris global climate treaty and the Iran nuclear accord has led Merkel to conclude the alliance between the two countries is no longer reliable.
