'Wake up Punchy!': Trump jabs back at De Niro

Donald Trump and Robert DeNiro

Specifically, Trump hit back at actor Robert De Niro over his pretty succinct slam of Trump during Sunday night's Tony Awards.

He wrote: "Robert De Niro, a very Low IQ individual, has received to many shots to the head by real boxers in movies".

The crowd at New York's Radio City Music Hall cheered his remarks, though he was later criticized for stooping to Trump's name-calling level.

Introducing a performance by Bruce Springsteen Sunday night at the Tony Awards, the actor railed against the American President. Get it? Though "Punchy" falls short on the quality scale as far as Trump insults go.

De Niro continued to rant against Trump the next day, apologizing to Canada for "the idiotic behavior of my president".

Waleed explained De Niro's comments, as well as many other celebs' comments about Trump, did not gain anything, and instead actually played into the hands of the current president.

An outspoken critic of Trump since the 2016 presidential election, De Niro has chastised Trump in multiple public appearances in the past few days.

Trump was on his way to Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as the Broadway awards show was taking place.
