England coach Eddie Jones dismisses confrontation with South Africa fans

Eddie Jones

Jones, who was verbally abused by South Africa fans in the tunnel after the match, believes the Springboks had ridden their luck as his team dropped to fifth in the global rankings.

He stood his ground for 10-15 seconds before being led away by players and staff.

"They have always got plenty to say". Especially when they win'.

However, the 58-year-old dismissed the incident as nothing more than a "little conversation about a bottle of wine".

"I was just asking them where I could get a good bottle of Pinotage".

"It certainly wasn't the start we wanted in our first Test at home and I was anxious, because we had a lot of young players against a very experienced England side", said Erasmus.

However, the hosts produced a sensational comeback, running in four tries - two of them from debutant winger Sibusiso Nkosi - to turn the game around before the break.

"The first 20 minutes was some of the best rugby we've played and we then let them back into the game by ill-discipline, which is so, so frustrating".

England spent a night with snakes and spiders to help take their minds off Saturday's harrowing collapse to South Africa at Ellis Park.

Oscar De La Hoya Confirms Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin Fight Rematch
Promoter of Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya , was the first to announce things a while ago. The first bout in September 2017 ended in a controversial draw.

Aphiwe Dyantyi, another South Africa wing on debut, pushed the home team 39-27 ahead, making England pay immediately for a yellow card to prop Mako Vunipola in his 50th test.

"They'll take confidence from the result, but we'll take confidence from this game as well".

"It was a wonderful game of rugby, but it's not good to sit in the loser's seat".

Jones dismissed this as a factor, and blamed "individual errors and indiscipline" as England added another defeat to three from their five Six Nations matches this winter. "He can be proud of himself and we should be of him".

Jones replaced Nick Isiekwe with Brad Shields in the 37th minute in a tactical substitution that mirrored the early withdrawal of Luther Burrell and Teimana Harrison against Australia two years ago.

"We know Eddie has a sharp mind and will surely have a few tricks up his sleeve for the second Test". Still, we only scraped through in the end and we made too many errors, so there is a lot for us to work on. I think I played 36 Tests and that felt like a lot to me.

Erasmus is back in the town where he hit the big-time while playing for the Cheetahs and where he started his coaching career. We were almost very, very good, so hopefully we can string a few things together and get that 80-minute performance next week.

"It was a tactical mistake on my part, but as soon as we realised we needed more width on defence, and the players adapted on the field, things started going our way", said Erasmus, who admitted that the Boks will have to make a number of "brave decisions" in the next couple of months.
