Father Who Killed His Two Children In Pennant Hills Found Dead

Police found the 68-year-old man's body in a home in a nearby suburb on Friday.

A man found dead today after he shot and killed his two teenage children has been identified as John Edwards, a 68-year-old Sydney financial planner.

Forensic teams and homicide investigators have been combing the home all night for evidence, while the mother is recovering with friends after being treated for severe shock.

"We consider this to be very much a targeted incident and we do believe that it may well be domestic violence-related", said Brett McFadden, acting assistant commander of the NSW Police north-west region metropolitan command, adding that the scene was "harrowing".

"The 68-year-old male was the holder of a number of firearms".

Police say they were "aware" of Mr Edwards, who had been involved in a custody battle with the children's 36-year-old mother for two years following the breakdown of a long-term relationship.

More than four hours after police arrived at the home, Hull Road remained cordoned off by police cars.

Two handguns were found at the Normanhurst property.

"And I do know that there were some custody hearings over the last two years", McFadden said.

U.S. service member killed in 'insider attack' in Afghanistan
Conde, 22, was shot by enemy fighters in a firefight in Kapisa province while providing security for U.S. This is the third combat fatality in Afghanistan this year.

The man sought as a "person of interest" overnight was believed to be in his 50s.

"The emergency service personnel responded to what can only be described as an horrific scene inside those premises", he said.

"It is what can only be described as a tragic set of circumstances for the whole family", Supt McFadden said.

"When ambulance paramedics arrived we were confronted with an extremely distressing and stressful situation", he said.

"Unfortunately there was nothing we could do to help [the two teenagers]", he said.

Longtime resident John Howard, 82, told news.com.au it was "normally a pretty quiet street".

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull described the killings as "a bad, awful tragedy". "A lot of young people have been moving into the area".

"We mourn the loss of those young people and pray that those who have been so, so hurt by this shocking crime can find comfort in prayer and the consolation from friends and loved ones".
