London awaits Trump's visit, braces for protests

Donald Trump arrives in the United Kingdom on Thursday for his first visit as president, during which he will meet the Queen and Theresa May and visit Scotland.

As anti-Trump activists demonstrate during the U.S. president's visit, supporters will gather in the British capital to welcome him to Britain.

Trump has clashed in the past with May - even though she is a conservative who shares his view that defense spending should be raised - and with her predecessor, David Cameron, who challenged Trump's anti-Muslim campaign stance as "divisive, stupid and wrong".

"For a United States president who retweets far-right Britain First propaganda, insults Londoners at times of tragedy, and refuses to condemn white supremacist marches at home, this insult is well deserved" said Labour MP David Lammy.

Mt Trump refused to endorse Ms May as prime minister and heaped praise on his "friend" Boris Johnson a day after he quit as foreign secretary. "It seems so un-American. This week we have an opportunity to deepen this unique trading relationship".

But as President Trump arrives in Britain on Thursday, he will find plenty of people who think it is more important to oppose him than it is to nurture U.S. -U.K. ties.

The baby blimp of President Trump is due to be flown over London this week.

Any yet Britain has entertained some equally controversial world leaders before him.

Thai cave rescue sees four more boys freed
A person with knowledge of the rescue said just before the eleventh person was spotted, that 10 people had been brought out. Officials were not immediately available to comment on who had been brought out, and their condition was unclear.

Downing Street insisted Mrs May welcomed Mr Trump's decision to "engage" with the Russian leader in the Finnish capital on Monday.

It looks a little scary there on the homepage of U.S. Embassy in London: the word ALERT.

It pointed to polling past year showing up to two million people could take part in anti-Trump actions.

Some British citizens are even more distressed about Trump than they are about the U.K.'s own feverish political turmoil.

Blimp organizer Leo Murray said it had been created to speak to Trump "in a language that he understands, which is personal insults".

British law requires any petition supported by more than 100,000 people to be considered for parliamentary debate, even though there was no serious attempt to prohibit Trump from entering Britain. Trump called for an IQ test between him and the mayor to determine who's smarter. It was an extraordinary rebuke from a close ally.

Similar protests are planned on Thursday evening outside the United States ambassador's home at Regent's Park and in Scotland when Mr Trump visits on Saturday.

The six-metre-tall inflatable, which wears a diaper and carries a smartphone, is set to fly on Jul 13 between 9.30am and 11.30am above Parliament Square Garden, next to the Houses of Parliament. Blenheim is the birthplace of Winston Churchill and the evening will begin with a military ceremony in the Great Court performed by the bands of the Scotch, Irish and Welsh guards.
