Djokovic advances to Wimbledon quarterfinals

Either Rafael Nadal or Juan Martin del Potro will provide the next hurdle on Friday.

That initial burst gave Federer 34 successive sets won at Wimbledon, equaling his own record set between 2005 and 2006.

This time it was the Serb who saved three break points before he let out a huge roar when, with momentum on his side, he broke Nishikori in the next game.

A year after his 2017 fourth round match was postponed by 24 hours into what is a designated "rest day" for the men, he narrowly avoided suffering the same fate again.

But having got his foothold in the second set, Djokovic's nous and show-court experience shone through, making it 13 wins on the bounce for the Serb against Nishikori. It was Federer who blinked, double-faulting to face a break point at 11-all, then slapping a forehand into the net.

Novak Djokovic reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the 10th time on Monday with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 win over Russia's Karen Khachanov.

Novak Djokovic triumphed in the first set and it seemed as an easy outing for the three time Wimbledon champion.

Harry Maguire 'deserves to play higher', says Riyad Mahrez
Speaking at his formal unveiling at the City Football Academy, Mahrez said: "It's a club who wants to win this type of trophy". Now we will have to work and see what can happen. "He's a big manager who won a lot of things and made history at this club".

"It's not the first time in the semi-finals - I've been here before - but first I'll try to enjoy this victory before thinking about the next opponent". The 12-time major victor prevailed despite picking up two code violations and accusing umpire Carlos Ramos of "double standards". "You think I ruined the court by tossing the racket two metres behind the baseline?" I didn't harm the grass.

A rattled Djokovic lost the second set 6-3 to Nishikori, canceling out his 6-3 win in the first. "I didn't see it coming", said Federer. "I get the warning, he doesn't, so it's not fair".

Indignation that his aura of invincibility, so unmistakable when he won the French Open in 2016 to hold all the grand-slam events simultaneously and appeared to have a stranglehold on the men's game, has been shattered. His latest foray into the final four of Wimbledon is just another addition to his now 32 Grand Slam semifinal appearances, now second on the list behind Roger Federer. The level of tennis has been going up in the past couple of months and tournaments. "I am peaking at the right moment". "Sometimes that's what you need to, I guess, be more alert on the court".

It was performance of resilience and resolve from the former number one, reminiscent of the player who held all four Grand Slam titles two years ago.

Djokovic tends to perform best with a "the world is against me" attitude, so his chances at capturing a fourth Wimbledon crown may have just risen. I know how I threw the racquet.

He will surely pose a threat for the 12-seed Djokovic.
