The Story Behind TIME's Trump and Putin 'Summit Crisis' Cover

Oldest evidence of bread discovered

One day after President Donald Trump clarified that he believes Russian Federation likely interfered in the 2016 presidential election, he said Wednesday he thinks the Kremlin no longer targeting the US and its elections.

The president's comments were unlikely to satisfy his critics in both parties.

The remark, which came in response to a reporter's question as journalists were being escorted from a Cabinet meeting at the White House, marked the second time in three days the president has broken with the former GOP senator from Indiana.

The president's comment continues his reluctance to strongly condemn President Putin head on for what US intelligence agencies have concluded was clear interference by the Kremlin, under Putin's direction, to disrupt the 2016 presidential election. And he ad-libbed that in addition to Russian hackers, it could have been "other people". That assertion is not supported by known intelligence.

It was during a Monday press conference alongside Putin that Trump cast doubt on the United States intelligence community's assessment that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 USA presidential election.

He added: "Some people hate the fact that I got along well with President Putin of Russian Federation. "The sentence should have been 'I don't see any reason why I wouldn't, ' or 'why it wouldn't be Russian Federation.' I said the word 'would" instead of 'wouldn't'". He told reporters he meant to say, "I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be (Russia)", not "I don't see any reason why it would be".

A few hours earlier, Trump had answered "no" when asked if the longtime US foe was still targeting American elections.

USA intelligence agencies have found evidence showing Russian agents actively interfered with the 2016 election.

As his rare retraction - Trump is not known to own up mistakes - became the new narrative, the president added a new wrinkle in an unscripted interaction with reporters.

FFA has declined to comment, but it's understood the governing body will not put funds towards a trial under any circumstances. Mielekamp said his club had been working on the agreement for four to five months, and there was still "some work to do".

Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer said Trump needed to wake up to Russia's efforts to interfere in American elections.

The scene nearly instantly drew condemnation as it played out on television screens.

Carle added: "Trump clearly responds favourably to praise".

Trump referred to the European Union as "a foe" on trade matters in an interview with CBS News that aired Sunday.

"The Russians want to have me handed over", Browder said. "What's the big deal?" "It's 24 hours late and in the wrong place", he said.

"We're going to make sure that Congress does everything it can to protect this country", said Sen.

House Speaker Paul Ryan quickly condemned Trump's comments, though he did not name Trump.

When asked about special counsel Robert Mueller's ongoing probe, the president once again said there's been no collusion. He may have been pressured into saying it-not just by the media furor but by Mike Pence, John Kelly, Mike Pompeo and John Bolton, according to reports-but he said it nonetheless.

He and other House Republican leaders tried to change the subject to taxes and the economy during their weekly news conference.
