Kepa Arrizabalaga pays €80m release clause ahead of Chelsea move

Real Madrid transfer news

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has paid his 80 million-euro (71.9 million pounds) buy-out clause to break his contract with the Spanish side ahead of a reported move to Chelsea.

The teams didn't disclose terms of Courtois' transfer, but multiple outlets report Real Madrid will pay Chelsea £35 million (€39 million/$45 million) for his services.

His future has always been speculated amid Madrid's pursuit of Manchester United keeper David de Gea, however, the veteran has played a key role in the capital.

Thibaut Courtois' wish finally will come true.

Just weeks after Liverpool broke the record transfer fee for a goalkeeper in a deal worth up to 72.5 million euros for Brazilian worldwide Alisson Becker, the inexperienced Kepa, 23, now inherits the title of the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

He signed a fresh deal that would keep him at the club until 2025, with his release clause raised to €80m - describing Bilbao as his "home" and the club he believed he would develop the best at.

Very much like McIlroy, Day falls into the "due a big win" category and recent fine form suggests it could come at Bellerive. Beau HosslerHossler plays out of Trinity Forest in Dallas, Texas which lays out very similar to what Bellerive offers.

Chelsea are now expected to announce Kepa Arrizabalaga as Courtois's replacement.

He has spent the past two seasons in Bilbao's first team, making 53 La Liga appearances, and has one global cap. "I have taken my time and I want to thank the club that respected it to make my decision".

Real Madrid will now likely get on with their bid to get Thibaut Courtois into the club, with the Belgian missing the first two days of training deliberately in a bid to force through a move back to Madrid where his family are based.

Chelsea are reportedly close to securing the signature of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid.

Eden Hazard has hinted he is keen to leave Chelsea this summer as he eyes up a move to Real Madrid, but Blues officials have told Yahoo Sport that they will not entertain any offers for their number 10.
