Gender gap hurts GOP, but Kavanaugh helps - McConnell

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Friday approved Brett Kavanaugh Donald Trump's pick for the US Supreme Court

Kavanaugh is accompanied by his wife Ashley Kavanaugh, third from left, and children Margaret, second from left, and Liza. She almost jeopardized Kavanaugh's confirmation and did historic harm to the Senate confirmation process, but McConnell still considers her a Republican in "very good standing". But in a well-functioning democracy, the Senate would have rejected Kavanaugh's nomination: The 50 senators who voted him onto the court last weekend collectively represent just 44 percent of the USA population.

This comes after Kavanaugh was sworn in over the weekend by retired Justice Anthony Kennedy and Chief Justice John Roberts, who also attended the ceremony.

Mocking some Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee who pressed the case against Kavanaugh, Trump said: "The Democrats have become too unsafe to govern".

"If I'm chairman, they won't take it up", Grassley said, referring to a possible 2020 nomination in a Tuesday interview with Fox News.

"I don't see how it could be much wider than it already was", he said.

Mr Kavanaugh moved to the Supreme Court after spending 12 years as a judge on the influential U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, building a conservative judicial record.

"This is truly an historic week for America", Trump glowed, denouncing what he described as "the Democrats' shameful campaign of political and personal destruction" against Kavanaugh by drawing attention to multiple sexual misconduct accusations against him.

Ahead of the United States mid-term elections, Mr Trump added: "I think you're going to see a lot of things happen on 6 November that would not have happened before".

China stocks rebound as Beijing boosts policy support
Total tax cuts for the year are expected to exceed 1.3 trillion yuan ($188 billion), according to Liu. The government has taken measures to help companies impacted by the trade war, he added.

"She's certainly going to recover", McConnell said.

Trump sees his success in getting Kavanaugh onto the court-tilting the crucial body to the right for potentially years to come-as one of the major successes of his two-year administration. "The Supreme Court is an institution of law". He denied all the allegations.

The Supreme Court welcomes its newest justice Tuesday as Brett Kavanaugh takes the bench for his first arguments since a contentious Senate voted narrowly to confirm him, cementing a decades-long campaign by conservatives to reshape the nation's highest court.

And yet, it's quite plausible that installing a historically unpopular Supreme Court justice - whom most Americans regard as a sex offender - was, nonetheless, a political win for the GOP. Mr Trump has spent the past few days relishing Mr Kavanaugh's confirmation, which appeared in doubt as recently as last week after three women made sexual assault allegations against the nominee.

During a rally in the Iowa community of Council Bluffs, President Donald Trump's supporters began chanting one of their most famous (or infamous) lines, "Lock her up!" But the Democrats' outrageous antics in the Kavanaugh fight have awakened a sleeping Republican giant.

Then, just as his confirmation seemed inevitable, 11th-hour allegations emerged that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl while at high school and exposed himself to a female classmate at an alcohol-fueled dorm party at Yale University. Lisa Murkowski for voting against Brett Kavanaugh.

Between Thursday and Saturday of last week, the Capitol Police arrested more than 544 protesters related to the Kavanaugh nomination.
